Italian Olive Oil Producers Selling Fake Extra Virgin Olive Oils
The Italian food industry has been riddle with scandal for years. It is one of their most lucrative industries, yet companies working with the Italian region cannot seem to stay on the straight and narrow.
An excerpt from the article reads “seven of Italy’s best-known olive oil companies are being investigated for allegedly conning consumers by passing off inferior quality virgin olive oil as extra-virgin.” …continued here
What does this mean for you, the loyal consumer?
Extra virgin olive oil is distinguished from all other oils (even other grades of olive oil). It’s filled with a unique combination of monounsaturated fats, polyphenols and phytosterols. There are numerous scientific studies proving diets rich in these three natural components are associated with:
-lower levels of “bad cholesterol” (LDL) and higher levels of “good cholesterol” (HDL).
-lower levels of heart-unfriendly oxidized LDL’s.
-reduced DNA oxidative damage which in turn is related to a reduced risk of some cancers.
-reduced incidence of hypertension.
-improved glycemic control, which is particularly advantageous to diabetic patients.
Fresh extra virgin olive oils contain higher levels of these beneficial components. Suggested consumption is 2-4 daily tablespoons of high quality extra virgin olive oil, preferably in place of other fats.
Long story short…
If it’s not fresh oil, it’s pointless. Many consumers switch to high quality olive oil for the health benefit and the amazing flavor. If the quality isn’t there (in others words: mislabeling of product quality) then the health benefits and flavor quality are not there either.
POUR OLIVE always supplies Ultra Premium Olive Oils which are held to an extremely high standard. These oils must adhere to rigid production, farming, harvesting, and milling requirements.
